Starting ProBoost

Today I started a product called ProBoost, or Thymic Protein A. It is sold as a powder in individual packets that you dissolve under your tongue. The taste is a little bit weird at first but as the powder dissolves the weirdness goes away. I can't say I noticed any immediate effect.

There is a good amount of research on this product. It has been shown to reduce EBV titers in people in which they were elevated. There was also a three month study on CFS/CFIDS patients, and the study participants had a normalization of immune function along with a corresponding improvement in symptoms. In that study, a third of the participants dropped out due to unpleasant flu-like side effects, probably due to either a herxheimer reaction or an increase in cytokines. I am inclined to believe that these patients were the ones that could have benefitted the most, so I wonder what the study would have ended like if they had stayed on it.

While the company recommends one packet a day or every other day as a maintenance level for healthy people, they recommend up to three packets per day which was the dosage used in the studies mentioned above. I'm going to start with one for now and work up to three over the course of the next week or two.
