Pretty much this entire week, my fatigue has been about one notch worse. There's the regular CFS fatigue which is always there, but now there is an extra layer. It's a feeling of drowsiness that is similar to what I would have if I was sick with a cold or the flu.
For example, normally when I wake up early in the morning, which often happens even though I don't get out of bed until the afternoon, I will get out of bed to mess around with my curtains to make sure there isn't a single drop of sunlight coming in, before going back to bed. I just can't sleep with light coming in the room. Well, this week I still have been waking up at various times, but I've been so sleepy that the light coming in around the curtains doesn't even manage to bother me, and I also fall back asleep much faster than usual.
I think that my extra fatigue and feelings of drowsiness must be the result the herxheimer reaction, or as someone at the HHV6 Foundation Forums suggested, a cytokine storm, or some other kind of sign that the treatment is working. Hopefully this is the case--that it really is working, and that once this feeling passes, I'll start to feel better than "CFS baseline," and be on my way to recovery. Hopefully.
To recap, the antiviral supplements I'm taking each day are a total of 12 capsules of olive leaf extract (each capsule is 250mg extract with 20% oleuropein, and 235mg whole leaf), 6 scoops of Lauricidin brand monolaurin, 3000mg L-Lysine, and 1500mg Quercetin. These doses are divided throughout the day as evenly as I can, which is about every 4 hours since I'm only awake 12 hours a day. And I'm still taking a few other supplements, but I've been taking those for years and I don't see them bringing about a cure anytime soon.
