I've been on 2g of Valtrex per day (1 gram twice daily) for two weeks now. Side effects have been virtually absent. I did experience some slight diarrhea at first but nothing too serious. I've heard a few CFS patients report anxiety and insomnia on Valtrex, and while I've had that on many supplements and drugs (Vitamins B, C, D, tagamet, etc.), I'm very thankful I am not experiencing that with Valtrex.
Last week I bumped up the echinacea to 12 capsules per day (4 caps thrice daily). I'm still on the Nature's Answer brand which is a blend of two species of echinacea root, 450mg per cap. I still have slight pain in my left abdomen, although it's mainly only a problem when I'm trying to sleep and I want to lay on my left side. It has improved a little though. I am pretty sure it is my spleen because I can't think of anything else that would hurt in that area, and I found with google a few other reports of other people experiencing the same.
I do believe that all the immune boosters are helping and hope to report something more specific and significant in a few more weeks. The Valtrex may be helping as well, but it usually doesn't work this soon, and I started to feel a little improvement in the weeks before I started it.
According to published research that I've come across, it takes about three months for immune modulators like echinacea and AHCC to reach their full effect. Natural killer (NK) cell function gradually rises the first three months and then is sustained at the higher level. I've only been on the immune boosters for a little over two months, so I am excited to see where I will be another few months from now.
There are some evidences that echinacea is not safe and useless on the long term because on the ways in modulate the immune system.
ReplyDeleteI have had diarrhea and pain in the abdomen too using Valtrex, I think it is very common.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say that as a fellow CFS sufferer that I am so glad I stumbled on your blog. I have been sick for 4 years, and have been self-medicating similar to yourself.
I'm very interested to see how your protocol turns out, and will be following your blog closely.
Maybe we can compare notes someday, although I have tried ALOT of supplements with limited success..
