It has been six months since I started L-Lysine. Some people such as Dr. Teitelbaum advise not to take it longer than six months so as to not create an amino acid imbalance. Well, I don't really think it's doing anything anyway (though I have no evidence either way), so I will discontinue it. Maybe I will take it on and off for 6 month periods. It's less pills to swallow.
I've discontinued artemisinin as well. A study showed it has no effectiveness at all against HHV-6 and very little against CMV, even though Artesunate does. (Activity of artemisinin versus artesunate against EBV seems to have not been examined but I'd guess it is a similar story to the other two viruses). It may also be more toxic than I thought when taken for long periods of time. Too bad I had just bought two more bottles of artemisinin...oh well.
I've found a few new supplements that are interesting. ImmunExtra, which used to be caled PineExtract because it is made from pine cones, is a novel immune system modulator that supposedly turns off the Th2 arm of the immune system and turns on Th1. A supplement made from wheat germ called Avemar is supposed to do this too. Avemar has been studied in cancer and autoimmune diseases, and has been recommended by the HHV6 Foundation, so I think I am more comfortable with the research behind it, even though it is more expensive than ImmunExtra. A patient on the Prohealth message board said their virus titers shot up on ImmunExtra and I can't figure out if that is a good sign of a bad sign! And even if they are booth good, I don't think I should take them both at the same time. We'll see.
So, let's do a roundup of what I'm taking now. Olive Leaf extract, which I now try to take exactly every 6 hours (3 capsules x 4 doses = 12/day), ImmunoPro (one scoop twice daily), Lauricidin (between 1 and 3 scoops at meals, up to three times/day, I frequently forget to take it unfortunately), ProBoost (one packet thrice daily), Inosine (Dr. Cheney's pulsed dosing routine). I think that's everything...I'm having trouble keeping track. Keep in mind these are just antiviral and immune modulators, I'm taking some other supplements for general health.
An Anonymous poster asked how I was managing to get ImmunoPro down, the whey protein powder. I do admit the taste was kind of bad but eventually I just got used to it. Instead of mixing it with liquid I just put the powder in my mouth and a little water and kind of chew it until it's dissolved. Sounds strange but it works for me. You can also mix it with milk or dairy substitute.
Hi I just chanced across your blog while googling the supplement Virastop. Have you heard of the Lightning Process for CFS? I was housebound for 8 years with severe CFS and it worked wonders for me and several other people I know. I still get flus more often than I would like (hence the Virastop search) but I am living a full and active life now and have moved from the UK to India. I have no vested interest in promoting this, by the way, just thought if I can be helpful to someone who is obviously wanting with all their heart to get better then that could be my good deed of the day :-). Anyway, good luck!
